SFI Australia is pleased to announce our most recent partnership with INPEX, supporting their offshore 2022 major CPF (Central Processing Facility) shutdown, mobilising out of the INPEX base in Darwin, NT.
The offshore facility supports hydrocarbon processing systems and utilities, and is the world’s largest semi-submersible production platform, and the first in Australian waters. Works on the site commenced in June and will be completed in August 2022.
SFI partnered on this project as the provider for tools, equipment, and industrial supplies, as well as equipment and plant rental. SFI will also manage materials and procurement for the project.

This project builds on SFI’s experience as full-service supply partner, delivering tools and equipment to location and managing material procurement. SFI also arranged INPEX’s purchase of project specific tooling and equipment. With any offshore projection, there are additional challenges in execution including logistics, timing, expenses, correct tooling and inspections and certifications, as well as workers’ on-site accommodation and support vessels. SFI will use DNV rated containers to transport the tools and equipment to the CPF.
SFI will also partner to facilitate the supply of preassembled tool kits which will create greater efficiency and productivity by having the tools ready to go prior to sending them offshore. These include tool kits for various specific trades and range from Mechanical Fitter (MECH), Electrical Instrumentation (INLEC), Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Area Inspector (EEHA), and Sheetmetal workers (LAGGER). INPEX has arranged the purchase of these tool kits through SFI.
About the Project
The CPF site is located approximately 220kms off the coast of WA and 820kms southwest of Darwin, NT. The INPEX LNG Gas plant features hydrocarbon processing systems and utilities, where gas and condensate are exported onshore to processing facilities near Darwin via an 890km pipeline. In addition, condensate is directly shipped to global markets, including Japan, from a floating production, storage, and offloading facility – which is permanently moored near Ichthys Field in the Browse Basin.
The shutdown project is a brownfield offshore event with activities and maintenance performed in staged upgrades over 35 consecutive days. During this period, both day and nightshift personnel will work for the entire shutdown schedule.
Project Details
This type of shutdown is designed to identify areas or equipment that may be limiting or restricting workflow and perform general maintenance with a goal to optimise operations so the plant can continue to run at capacity.
With over 350 personnel on-site, this shutdown is critical to maintain optimal operation of the CPF. The INPEX Ichthys LNG project expected to last approximately 40 years.
The project is set to be completed by August 2022.
